The Relationship between Principles' Leadership Practices and Teachers' Work-Life Balance

Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out whether there is a meaningful relationship between leadership practices of principals and teachers’ balance of work life. The study has a correlational survey research design and the population of the study consists of teachers currently working in the city of Balıkesir. The sample of the study consists of 776 teachers that were selected through stratified sampling method. The data were collected through work life balance scales and necessary analyses were made. The results of the analyses showed that according to teachers, school principals have enough leadership practices toward teachers. Teachers find themselves quite successful in securing the work-life balance. Female teachers find themselves more successful in securing the work-life balance. It was found that as the experience of teachers increases they have less difficulty in securing a work-life balance. It was found that there is no meaningful correlation between school managers’ leadership practices and teachers’ work-life balance.
