Abstract

Burnout, defined as the sense of failure, the loss of energy in the working area, and insensitivity to the profession and to the people served, has become an important issue in the profession of psychological counseling, which, aims to make difference in the lives of others. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships among school counselors’ level of burnout, their effort in professional development and positive perception of themselves when comparing with others. 121 school counselors have participated in this study, and Professional Development Survey, Maslach Burnout Inventory and Social Comparison Scale were used. The results show that the burnout levels are found lower among the ones who put effort in professional development and who perceive themselves positively by comparison with others.
