In Turkey, oral history, especially became known in educational practices after the 2005 Social Studies Curriculum. Even though the method was investigated in many theses, it has not found enough space in social studies teacher education programs so far.The aim of this study is to uncover the thoughts of social studies teacher candidates who used oral history as a research and learning method. The method of the study is an exploratory research model, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The working group was determined according to the purposive sampling method. Observations, interviews, and documents were used to collect data. Collected data were evaluated by using the content analysis method. The results of the study have demonstrated that social studies teachers' oral history interviews, transcripts and the oral history products largely fulfilled identified criteria. It has also been determined that oral history studies much contributed to social studies teacher candidates in the academic, personal-psychological, sociocultural and intellectual zone of development. The oral history that has important potentials for social studies education should be more handle in social studies and history teaching programs through elective courses or in some teaching methods courses.
