Investigation of High School Students' Perceptions of Guidance Service Through Metaphors

Abstract

The services offered to the students are shaped in line with the needs of the students and the educational approaches that are developing and changing day by day. One of these services offered to students is guidance services (Halmatov, 2014). . In this study, it is aimed to determine the metaphorical perceptions of 12th grade students about the guidance service and to evaluate these perceptions according to gender and frequency of reference. For this purpose, the problem of the research is determined as How is the metaphorical perceptions of 12th grade students about guidance service? A qualitative research model was used in this research. The study group consisted of 12th grade students in four different high schools in Kırşehir in 2017-2018 academic year. These high schools are selected by random sample selection. Metaphors such as af galaxy, love nest, therapy, water, parental, lifeguard, sunrise are produced in the problem-oriented guidance service category. In order to be relaxing, metaphors such as sun, tranquility room, deserted ship and sky were produced in the guidance service category. When the categories in the study are evaluated in terms of frequency of referral to school guidance services, no significant differences are observed. However, it was observed that there were some categories of students who did not apply at all and applied to students in the period between 1-3.
