Abstract

In this day and age, the scientific journals are the indispensable elements of the academic world. Just as in other fields, new browsing tools and electronic databases that provide access to up-to-date knowledge and researches increased the swiftness of receiving information and the trustworthiness of the information received in music education. These databases are essential for propounding, structuring, and initiating new research ideas in the field of music education. Herein, the Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) confronts us as an outstanding database for music education as well as other educational disciplines. This study, whose subject is tendencies of ERIC indexed music education publications, is a qualitative research. A type of qualitative researches, document analysis technique was used in this study. The population of this research consists of music education publications searched in the ERIC database, and the sample consists of 176 ERIC indexed music education publications made in Turkey. The sample group in this study was determined by one of the non-random sampling techniques, the purposeful sampling method. As the result of the study, it is determined that usually the studies that are; few-authored, made with single-method, constructed with data collected through survey and scale, made with the sample groups selected with regards to availability, made with relatively easier statistical techniques, conducted preferring some specific sub-areas of music education, and made intending to satisfy the requirements of academic promotion instead of as creating peculiar studies are found to be outnumbering.
