The Role And Effect Of Drama On Forming Environmental Consciousness Of Prospective Science Teachers
 
Abstract
The purpose of this study, after carrying out the drama implementations involving environmental issues, to determine the effectiveness of the drama method on environmental knowledge, attitudes and behaviours. In this study, pre-test and post-test control groups design and mixed methods research were used. The study was carried out with prospective science and technology teachers educated in Gazi University, The Faculty of Gazi Education, Department of Science Education in fall semester during 2009-2010 teaching session, as a group total 67 prospective teachers, which is included experimental group 33 (9 male, 24 female) and control group 34 (13 male, 21 female). In the study, to determine environmental consciousness levels of prospective teachers, it was improved “Environmental Consciousness Scale (ECS)” consist of three different test which were “Environmental Knowledge Test (EKT)”, “Environmental Attitude Test (EAT)” and “Environmental Behaviour Test (EBT)”. In the study, ECS were applied to experimental and control groups before the implementations as a pre-test and after as a post-test. Results of the study show that the drama method has a positive effect on environmental consciousness of prospective teachers. When the experimental and control groups were compared, it was founded that there was a significant differences between experimental and control groups for the knowledge, behaviour and total scores of scale in favour of the experimental group. But it was seen that the differences of attitudes between the groups was no significant. In the lights of these findings, some suggestions are introduced.
