Abstract
Bireyin yaşamı boyunca bazı kişisel özellikleri ve değerleri edinmesi onun sosyal çevreye uyumunu için gerekli ve önemli görülmektedir. Kişisel özellikler ve değerlerin kazandırılması ilkokulların önemli görevlerinden birini oluşturmaktadır. Hayat bilgisi programı hem etkili vatandaş yetiştirme hem de bireyi hayat hazırlama misyonu gereğine uygun olarak kişisel niteliklerin ya da değerlerin kazandırıldığı bir ders olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu araştırmanın temel amacı, ilkokul üçüncü sınıf öğrencilerinin yazılı ifadeler ve resimli betimlemeler ile kişisel niteliklerden olan yeniliğe açıklık değerini nasıl ifade ettiklerinin tespit edilmesidir. Betimsel yöntemin kullanıldığı araştırmada veriler bir adet açık uçlu soru ve bu soru ile ilgili bir adet resim çiziminden oluşan veri toplama formu ile toplanmıştır. Kolay ulaşılabilir örneklem tekniği ile oluşturulan örneklem, Kırşehir ili Kaman ilçesindeki 5 ilkokulun 3. sınıf öğrencilerinden oluşturulmuş ve araştırma sürecine toplam 166 öğrenci katılmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analizi için içerik analizi ve görsel analiz tekniği işe koşulmuştur. Araştırma verilerine göre aşağıdaki sonuçlara ulaşılmıştır: “Yeniliğe açıklık denilince aklınıza gelenleri yazınız.” sorusuna öğrenciler en çok, “teknolojik yenilik ve icatlar”, “Atatürk sayesinde yeniliklerin olması”, “yeni bir şeyin olması”, “yeni bir arkadaş edinmek” ve “yenilikleri sevmek, hoşlanmak ve mutlu olmak” cevaplarını vermişlerdir. “Yeniliğe açıklık denilince aklınıza gelenlerin resmini çiziniz.” sorusuna öğrenciler en çok, “teknolojik yenilik ve icatlar”, “yeni bir şeyin olması”, “okullu olmak/okulda yeni bilgiler öğrenmek”, “Atatürk sayesinde yeniliklerin olması”, “Yenilikleri keşfetmek, tatmak ve görmek” ve “yeni bir arkadaş edinmek” ile ilgili resimler çizmişlerdir.

Abstract
It is necessary and important for an individual to acquire some personal traits and certain values throughout his/her life so as to be adapted to a social environment. Bringing forth those traits of personality and values is among the leading missions of primary schools. Life Science is such a course in which personal traits or values are acquired in accordance with the mission of both bringing up efficient citizens and preparing them for life. The main aim of this study is to see how third-grade primary school students describe the value of openness to innovation with written expression and pictorial depiction. The research incorporates a descriptive method and a data collection form consisting of an open-ended question and a drawing related to that question. The convenience sampling of the research consisted of the third-grade students receiving education in five primary schools in the Kaman district of Kırşehir province. A total of 166 students participated in the research. Content and visual analysis techniques were used to interpret the collected data. The results are as follows: The students were asked to “write what comes to your mind when you hear openness to innovation”. They answered the mentioned question as “technological innovation and inventions”, “introduction of innovations by Atatürk”, “ occurrence of a new thing/event”, “making a new friend”, and “loving, enjoying, relishing innovations”. The students were then asked to “draw a picture of what comes to your mind when you hear openness to innovation”. They drew pictures depicting “technological innovation and inventions”, “occurrence of a new thing”, “getting schooled/learning new information at school”, “introduction of innovations by Atatürk”, “discovering, tasting and observing new things”, and “making a new friend”.
