Ecological or Economic?: Determining the Reasons of Certain Environmentally Friendly Behaviors which are Economically Beneficial

Abstract

The present study was conducted in order to determine the reasons of certain environmentally friendly behaviors which are economically beneficial. The case study model was used in the study in accordance with qualitative research. Criteria sampling was used in the selection of the sample. It has been used as a criterion for the students to have taken an environmentally oriented course and have reached the level of education that they can comment on. The study was conducted on a voluntary basis with 120 students at the department of science teaching. The questionnaire form prepared by the researchers and consisting of open-ended questions was employed as the data gathering tool. Content analysis and percentage and frequency values are used for data analysis. At the end of the study, it was seen that teacher candidates who stated that they did environmental friendly behaviors were more than those who stated that they did not. This also applies at every class level. The reasons why prospective teachers make eco-friendly behaviors with economic benefits are mostly gathered under the theme of economic purpose.
