Investigation of Works Being Thought in Music Lesson Books with Respect to Voice Change Period

Abstract

The model of this study which is conducted with the aim to investigate the works that are thought in music lesson books of 7th and 8th classes in junior high schools with respect to voice change (mutation) period, has been specified as document review (analysis). Total 36 works being thought at the music lessons during 2016-2017 academic year, 9 of which are thought in 7th class and 27 of which are thought in 8th class, have been analyzed with respect to range, tessitura,leap progress, agility, speed, musical note value, articulation speed, and melismatic features. Even though some of the works were found to be appropriate with respect to leap progress and melismatic aspects, when they were analyzed with respect to all evaluation criteria, it was reached to the conclusion that none of them were determined to comply with voice features of mutation period. It has come out that in order to attain the gains targeted in music education, it was required to determine the works to be thought as per the voice features of mutation period.
