Abstract

This research was conducted in order to put the perceptions of amputee athletes who play sports at a professional and amateur level in Turkey to the body images they perceive and feel about their bodies. The research group consists of 85 Amputee athletes selected by random method. "Amputee Body Image Scale" was used to obtain data from the research group. The data obtained from the research group was made a normality test firstly, then the frequency and percentage calculation were made. "IndependentSample t-Test" was used from parametric tests to evaluate the level of differentiation from arguments to gender variables. The "Kruskal Wallis Test" was preferred from non-parametric tests in age, monthly income and education type variables. The"Pearson correlation analysis" was performed to determine the level and direction of the dependent variables. The degree of statistical significance (alpha (α) error level) was accepted as p<0.05. As a result of the research, it was observed that the body image perception scores of amputee athletes were higher than average in personal, social and functional sub-dimensions. It was determined that there was no statistically significant difference in gender and monthly income status variables. According to age and education type variables, it was found to be statistically significant among the sub-dimensions. As a result of correlation analysis, it was determined that there was a very high positive significant relationship between the personal sub-dimension and the amputee body image scale. The minimum relationship was found to be positive and medium-level between the functional sub-dimension and the personal sub-dimension.
