The aim of this study is to examine the process of “Stratification of Basic Education” in Turkey in 2012 and changes in the field of education of socials studies within this process. Method of document review has been used in this study; documents, reports and studies concerning the process have been examined. In the analyses, besides reform process in our country, comparisons done by data gathered in EU and OECD member are included. Within the frame of comparison with other countries; explanatory results are stated on the stratification in basic education with lowering of school starting age, and the changes in weekly class hours and curriculum of social studies courses.
