Abstract

This study examines the questions posed by middle school mathematics teacher candidates in the classroom, aided by artificial intelligence (AI) supported feedback. Thus, it reveals how AI influences the questioning strategies of teacher candidates. The research was conducted using an action research methodology, which is one of the qualitative research designs. The participants of the study were middle school mathematics teacher candidates enrolled in a teaching practice course. Based on the AI-supported feedback provided to the teacher candidates, the new questions they posed and the changes in the nature of these questions were analysed. The questioning strategies employed by the teacher candidates in mathematics classes were analysed using predetermined categories aligned with the theoretical framework. According to the findings of the research, the feedback received from AI contributed to the candidates' development of questions that encourage deeper thinking, create a discussion environment, and elicit student thinking, while also positively influencing their professional development.
