Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the expectations and attitudes of preschool teachers towards values education. In order to collect data in the study, a structured interview form created by the researcher was used to determine the opinions of the teachers about values education. The study was conducted with 49 teachers working in kindergartens and nursery schools in the lower, middle and upper socio-economic region in the Battalgazi districts of Malatya province. Interviews were recorded with voice recorder. The descriptive analysis method was used for the analysis of the data obtained. Based on the study results, according to teachers, the values of respect, love and solidarity are the most preferred values among those that should be given in preschool education. Most of the teachers discussed the values that they set monthly in their schools in their activities, and did not implement a special values education program. Teachers mostly preferred to provide values in their activities using the drama method. In addition, the inability to concretize values in activities, inadequate cooperation with families, and failure to find the required materials were the problems that teachers encountered during the acquisition of values. The vast majority of teachers found themselves partially adequate in values education.
