Abstract

The purpose of the study is to identify the knowledge of energy and opinions about different energy resources of the science and technology teacher candidates, depending on their undergraduate programs. In order to achieve that purpose, 383 teacher candidates, receiving education at the 1st and 4th grades at a university, Faculty of Education, Department of Science Teaching, during the 2005-2006 (former program) and 2010-2011 (new program) academic years, have been selected as the sample group. Consisting of seven open ended questions and prepared by the researchers, the assessment instrument has been applied on the sample group and the resulting data have been evaluated by using the content analysis method out of the qualitative data analysis methods. As a result of the research, the new undergraduate program on science has proved to be more successful in comparison with the former one, yet, the program’s content still needs to be enriched in terms of energy and energy resources, in particular regarding the issues of alternative energy resources and nuclear energy.
