Attitudes of Primary and Social Studies Teacher’ Candidates toward History Teaching in Turkey

Abstract

This study has aimed to inquired attitudes of primary teachers and social studies teachers, who do the teaching of history subject in Social Studies lesson at the Elementary School toward the history’s nature, history teaching and historical time. Therefore it has been studied to candidates of social studies and primary teachers. The universe of the research has formed Education Faculties of Kirsehir, Kastamonu and Gazi. Randomly have been chosen classes from 4th grade students of these faculties again (total 521) have formed the sample of the research. In the result, it has been determined that primary and social studies teacher candidates’ attitudes and beliefs toward history to changed according to their sexes and the departments in the research. In the research, it has been seen that female students’ attitudes lower positive than male student toward history, history teaching and historical time. The find can be evaluated to parallel at other research in literature of history education. It has been thought that this problem can be solved by course to improving history ideas for the teacher candidates.
